Interpretation

The metaphor of the "three-sided hunt" is central. In ancient China, a royal hunt that encircled the game completely was seen as greedy and destructive. The ideal hunt left one side open, allowing some animals to escape. This symbolizes a magnanimous and confident leader who does not need to force or control everyone. They attract those who come willingly and allow those who wish to depart to do so without penalty. This freedom of choice is what makes the resulting union so strong and genuine.
